Merry Christmas Fabulous Fun Runners Everywhere :-)
What a week it has been.
Neil “The Nutter” Warby started things off by completing the Enigma Marathon (Saturday) with a new PB of 3:52, the following day he was joined by Glyn, John Kirwan, Lesley Wes Muggeridge & Sian Lewis-Evans to do it all again, great effort guys, 5 runners & 6 marathons. This was Neil’s first back to back Marathon and clearly a stupendous effort, sadly Neil wasn’t up to his time of the previous day (Sigh! Some people just don’t try).
Stopsley XC: Another great show and great effort from the team at the 3Counties XC event.
Tuesday: Saw the annual “LOST IN TOWN” mystery run.
This proved particularly popular and the sheer numbers in attendance stretched the admin abilities of Chris Taylor as he tried to arrange a group of chatty girls & thick men into teams of two. Chaos and scuffles broke out in the male line while they tried to arrange themselves in order of size, fortunately calm was restored once Chris explained he meant your height, HEIGHT (Dooh, easy mistake).
The pictures posted on the club FB page say it all really :-)
Our confused faces as we pondered the clues did make the whole thing feel like a scene from “Shaun of the dead”! have you seen the Zombie Moth impersonations below?
The ultimate prize and undisputed winners were Heather “The Brains” Jacques and Brian “The map Carrier” Snowdon, proving that the joint IQ of this team exceed that of all others, this did raise a few eyebrows and cause a bit of muttering until it was established that Heather is in fact.............. a Genius ;-).
Races over Christmas:
SUNDAY 10am start from Rushmere car park (off the Linslade road), approx. 5 miles XC, feel free to bring friends to enjoy some minced pies and mulled wine afterwards. Please ensure you register on the club FB page or via the club email address email@example.com please ensure you give numbers otherwise fights break out as the wine runs out.
Pam & Karen are leading a 10 miler from the club house 8am.
Glyn is leading a 10 miler XC from Stockgrove at 10 am
If you are organised can easily do both :-)
Xmas day: We are spoiling you and allowing you the day off
Boxing day: ‘Ming the Merciless’ will be leading a 10K XC run from Linslade 10 am, meet Little Tescos, Grasmere Way/Coniston Road, LU7 2PJ. Bring clean shoes to drive home.
In other news:
Jo Parker in a rush of blood has enrolled in the 2013 Alanya ETU European Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships, full details below
Go get ‘em Jo.
Recently the Leighton Fun Runners and Leighton Buzzard Athletics Club committees met to explore ways that both clubs might work more closely together to our mutual benefit. We are pleased to say it was a productive and friendly meeting and there will be new opportunities and increased joint working as a result.
LBAC meet on Wednesdays at Tiddenfoot leisure centre, 7:20 for a 7:30 start.
LFR meet on Tuesdays at Bell Close, 7:20 for a 7:30 start.

Hello Fitness fanatics everywhere,
It’s been an exciting and interesting week. The Xmas bash( last Friday) was a lot a fun, sadly no-one was thrown out for dancing on the tables or having sex in the toilets so nothing major to gossip about although Alison Ellerton only just missed kicking John Preston in the head so that was fun to watch (personally I think a thick stick would have been better, maybe next year).
A few brave souls did the club proud and represented the team at the monthly Club visit to the MK Park Run, new PBs were achieved by Anna Mead and Mariam Allen (well done girls).
Sunday saw the Bedford half marathon championship event. There were PBs for Glyn Raymen, Ian Mulry, Sally Dickinson, Ben Sampson, Jason Charley and Chris Taylor (he denies it but we all know he’s never ran that fast before, huh huh). A special mention must be given to Angie Kerr who is clearly back and running like a demon (a great and inspiring effort Angie). Sally Dickinson turned up to the race looking like a lost lamb (all wide eyed, frightened and unsure), nailed the race and left roaring like a lioness (Bhah call that a race :p), I think we have a future marathon runner in the making here.
Next week’s run:
Tuesday sees the club partake in the annual mystery event. This is a lot of fun and usually involves small teams running around town, hopelessly lost and pretending they aren’t all secretly following each other. Wrap up warm guys as you spend a lot of time trying to crack those devilish riddles that spring from Chris Taylor’s very warped mind. Afterwards we all pop into the Sun Pub for a drink (1st drink’s on the club) and prizes.
Don’t forget the Speed and Stamina work on Thursday’s (details will come from the iron ladies Seri & Deena).
Race HQ is the "Inspire Sports Village" LU2 8DD Stopsley. Meet 9 o’clk in the town Library, this is a particularly great race. It was Kerry Whitford’s first XC and she just won’t stop talking about it, ask her she’ll thank you J Honestly.
As you will be aware Kerry is kicking of the first C25K in the new year, please offer you support and time to ensure another successful event.
Xmas Eve (ish). Meet Sunday 23rd 10am Rushmere Carpark (off the old Linslade road). Mulled wine and mince pies for everyone, you must let us know you are attending by registering on FB or by emailing the club (firstname.lastname@example.org) don’t forget to mention if you are bringing someone.
Just turn up all welcome.

Good morning Pleasant Plodders,
An exciting start to the week when a very “Odd Elf” (picture below) caused a herd of Santas to stampede through the town nearly crushing a frightened and very fat Xmas pud, disaster was averted when the Santas were herded to the Bottom Bell for Mulled wine and Mince pies. It was generally agreed that the whole thing was such good fun that a repeat Stampede will be arranged for next year, rumours are that the residents of Plamploma are very frightened.
Tuesday sees the club embark on Crazy Claire’s route. This is an interesting route with many turns down dark and eerie streets so a quick study of the maps would probably be a good idea. Head torches are recommended (because they are fun J ).
Thursday sees the club head out to Cotefield drive (of Heath Road), meet at the club house 7:15 or 7:30 at Cotefield drive.
Don’t forget that tomorrow (8th Dec) is the Monthly MK Club park run. See you all at Willan lake for a 9 o’clk kick off, please wear your club kit.
Good luck to everyone representing the club at the Bedford half on Sunday, don’t forget to wear your uniform
Marathon Club Places:
The club held its collective breath and performed a mental drum roll while Maxi pulled out the two lucky winners of this year’s VLM club places, the two places were awarded to Seri & Kerry with the reserve place going to Terri (A.K.A John Kirwan). An investigation has been launched to check whether the club has been infiltrated by the comedy rhyming name gang.
Market Stall holder “Crazy Claire” launched this season’s club kit causing a female stampede that nearly saw serious injury amongst the less experienced male runners. Promises that more kit would be delivered soon diffused an air of violence rarely seen outside the Harrod’s New year sale.
The new kit proved very popular and Claire is secretly kicking herself for not launching the LFR matching shoes and Handbags (maybe next session girls).

Hello Fab Fit Runners,
It’s so good to see that we are not letting a little bit of rain/wind stop us from taking our running shoes for a bit of exercise, that’s the kind of madness we need in our club J
The club put in an impressive effort at the Wolverton 5 on Saturday (a small fast serious race that takes no prisoners) and yet again our runners did us proud with impressive efforts all round
Not only were we the best looking gang there but also the noisiest, while everyone else ran to hide from the rain we stood on the finish line cheering like a gang of teenagers who’d consumed far too many blue smarties.
Sunday found us in the water logged fields of Northamptonshire for the East Haddon Shallow lake race ( even the hills were just shallow lakes on an incline). A tough and fun event that felt very harder than 5 Miles. A great effort guys and lots of happy smiling faces although Steve Harrison showing the secret of his running prowess was a little disconcerting
Thursday saw a dozen hardy souls completing the Stamina Strength training around Chartmore, without Deana’s relentless iron grip leadership I suspect one of two us would happily have snuck away for a warm cuppa and a biscuit.
Next week’s run:
Tuesday is the monthly 5K Timetrial, don’t forget to wear the club colours and bring a donation for the tea/coffee/cake/biscuits.
The draw for the VLM club places will happen on Tuesday so if you wish to be added to the draw please ensure you let Max know (no point whining after the draw)
The rules to be in the draw:
Thursday’s Strength and Stamina run is at Dingle Dell of Plantation road at 7:30 or 7:15 at the club house.
New Committee member:
Please welcome Jason to the committee as the club press officer, please approach Jason with all stories/PR that will help publicise the club.
Don’t forget we are hosting the Santa Dash tomorrow (1st Dec) 11 oclk from Church Square or High Street. Marshals to report for duty no later than 10:30 to receive your instructions from Laura and Verity. Tell your family/ friends/neighbours/lovers/cats/dogs. Santa is making a personal appearance so you really can’t afford to miss it.
The club Xmas meal is Friday week and will be a blast, for those poor fools who were tooooooo slow to get a ticket maybe we’ll see you in the bar afterwards (Ship, Wing Road).
I’m sure you would have noticed from Claire’s breathless postings that the Bedford/Fred Hughes races are open, get your places while you still can. The ongoing debate on the Oakley 20 Hoodie colour remains a Mystery, you’ll just have to enter and hope it isn’t pink.

Hello Crazy running people everywhere :-)
It’s that wonderful time of the year where the mornings are cold, the leaves are falling from the trees and the Nettles are dying by the tonne (ha ha ha , Die Nettles Die) so get on those shoes and explore those interesting new XC routes you’ve always wondered about, then share them with your mad running friends :-)

Wed 26th Dec: Boxing day hangover run.
This has been postponed from the 1st to the 8th of Dec as it clashes with the Santa Dash in LB.
Club Handicap races:
For those that don’t know these are annual events and are also part of the Club Championship. Any kind of timing or GPS devices are banned adding an exciting twist to the rush for the finish line as you have to estimate your start time to end exactly on mid day :-)

10 miles Sunday 10th Feb.
The draw for the 2 club places for the LVM will happen after the 5K Time trial on Tuesday 4th Dec. If you wish to be in the draw then hand your rejection slip to Max as soon as you can.
The rules to be in the draw:

Hello you Jolly Joggers,
Sunday saw a fantastic Club effort for the LFR XC event. We organised and ran a slick event even managing to organise some particularly thick shoe grabbing mud for our general entertainment.
Congratulations must be offered to Kerry for completing the race with only the 1 shoe and Verity for managing to get stuck up to her knees in the mud while trying to sneak across unnoticed.
A spectacular team LFR effort guys it felt good to be involved in such a capable team of people.
Don’t forget the photo shoot for the Santa Dash, 1pm Church Square, Sat (17th), bring your kids.
Tell all your friends to enter the event 1st Dec. Full event details on our web page.
This week’s Run:
I know you are all loving the challenge of the 25mins out and back events so we shall complete this particular route at least one more time. Let’s see if we can extend that distance in the given time.
The weekly Stamina/Strength training continues. Meet 7:15 at the club house or 7:30 at the course.
440m reps: Start from school corner. Up hill to roundabout - hills 4/6/8 reps
There is still time to join the 5m Wolvertine race Sat 24th Nov.

Hello Fellow runners,
An interesting and exciting week in the world of local running:
A small crowd attended the belated Claire Amos birthday bash at the wheatsheaf and shocking stayed out until 3am (yes in the morning) tut tut disgraceful.
Nick Hughes Completed his first ½ Marathon at Marlow and lived to tell the tale, Pam O’Connell attended the Tatton Park ½ in Cheshire (I can’t tell you how many ½ Marathons Pam has completed as this would give away her age ;-) ), John Kirwan went swimming at Rutland Water completing his 26th Marathon this year.
The club attended it’s second MK Park event last Saturday and come back with so many PBs that I fully expect to see gold colour post box pop up in the town any day soon. On Thursday a hardy group set off for the first of our official Thursday night run, a great success, thank you Seri and Deena (these girls are actually quite bossy you know).
This week’s Run:
Has been put together by Verity and is a route of such subtle complexity that I can already see a room of startled and frightened faces staring back at me J best have a look at the maps before setting of guys.
Thursday’s Stamina/Speed work will be Loops around the running Track off Stanbridge road. 7:15 at the club house or 7:30 at the track.
The organisers have put together an awesome race and promises to be fantastic (and wet and muddy) event.
Good luck to the runners representing the club, thank you to all the marshals cheering us on and let’s not forget the team putting the fantastic catering together.
If you are running DON’T FORGET YOUR NUMBER.
Please ensure that you publicise the Santa dash to everyone you know. Full details are on our web page.
Is planned for 7th Dec at the Ship please respond to Laura’s email if you wish to attend.
The club still needs a press officer and to date no one has stepped forward. So everyone, please consider all the club members you know and ask yourself “Who would be good at this” and then nominate them to the committee and we’ll approach them with the usual instruments of torture until they agree. The importance of this role cannot be understated, it’s healthy for the club to be known.
Last year the club hosted the Sainsbury’s run a mile sports relief event and I have just received notification that the total income for The Leighton Mile was £5375.59!
A sterling effort and a huge thank you to everyone involved.
