Christmas Handicap

The Christmas Handicap will take place on the traditional Sunday before Christmas - Sunday 18th December.

This is an opportunity for everyone in the club to run together (Under 18's and over 18's) across a cross country route of approximately 1.5 miles - so not too far!  It would be great to see a few Santa hats or reindeer horns.

Please be at the club HQ for 10am in order to be allocated your handicap time.  The run will go off promptly at 10.30am.

All runners need to bring a wrapped gift approx value of £2 which is suitable for all age groups i.e. no alcohol.  If your gift is only suitable for a male or a female please mark accordingly but unisex gifts are the best. 

After the run mulled wine, soft drinks and a few nibbles will be available in the club HQ so please stick around for a bit of a social with your club mates.

Due to race commitments by some of our normal time keepers, we will need a couple of volunteers on the day to record times.  If you do not intend to run but would still like to come along for the social side, please let Rob Coates know that you are available to help with time recording.

Hampshire Cross Country Championships 2012

We normally have a good turnout for the Hampshire Cross Championships so take a note of the details now.  As the current title holders, the lady Vets must go back to defend their title again.  Can we make it 3 years on the trot that we take the title?????


Date: Saturday January 7th 2012

Location: Dibden Enclosure, Dibden Purlieu on the edge of The New Forest (beautiful course!)


12:50pm Senior and Veteran Women (8,000 metres)

13:40pm Senior and Veteran Men (11,700m)


The club will pay individual entry fees for this race.  However if you then choose not to run, you may have to refund the club.


To enter this race all competitors must have Hampshire qualifications: a. birth or b. nine months continuous residence or service in H.M. Forces prior to the date of the Championships, in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight or Channel Islands, and MUST NOT have competed for another county or in another county's championships during the preceding year.  This is a Hampshire Club competition, and so unaffiliated runners may not be accepted.  Club vests must be worn.


Teams will consist of 4 runners for Senior & Vets women/men but 6 for the Senior men.


Closing date for entries is 17/12/11 but anyone wanting to run this should let Penny know ASAP.


Janet and Mitch’s First Mr & Mrs Run

The 1st Lord Wandsworth Cross Country race is on Sunday 27th November - 2 days after Mitch and Janet's wedding and they are planning to run their 1st Mr & Mrs race there and ask that you come along and celebrate with them. 


The race is at the Lord Wandsworth School in Long Sutton, near Odiham, starting just after 11am and is about 5 miles.  The entry is £5 on the day and all profits are going to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice - the same charity that the happy couple are asking people to make donations to instead of wedding presents!!!


This is the same route that is run for the Today’s Runner league fixture in January so why not have a run over the course now.

Fleet Pre-London Half Marathon 2012

We are now just short of the first 1000 entries for the race.  It is great to see so many F&C AC names on the entry list already, but if you haven’t entered yet and intend to run, do enter in the next week or so.  We are anticipating that the race will be full well before Christmas so don’t leave it too late.  Don’t forget to also pre-order your race t-shirt when you enter online.


If you ran it in 2011 you will have received an email from me and will have seen that we have a new partner for 2012.  SIS have agreed to be our specialist drinks partner for 2012 and each runner will receive some of their products at the end of the race as well as having the option to have some fuel drink on route if they choose to.


To have secured SIS is another endorsement that our race is seen as one of the biggest opportunities in the Spring to make contact with several thousand runners and promote your product to a relevant audience.


2012 Road Race Championships

The winners of the 2011 Road Race Championships will be officially announced at the AGM.  Well done to everyone who took part in the selected races throughout the year.


If you have any suggestions for alternative races for the 2012 Championships do let the committee know at the AGM next week.  As a guide, they should be races which are fairly local to Fleet to encourage greater participation.

As you are aware the AGM is scheduled to take place next week on Sunday November 20th – starting at 7.30pm.  It is at the Willis Hall, Sandy Lane, Church Crookham – opposite the Wyvern Pub.  Don’t forget to print off the previously circulated papers if you want copies with you as extras will not be provided on the night.


If you won a trophy at the 2010 AGM, please make sure you clean it and return it either to the club hut or contact Debbie Pagan directly (email – Debbie.pagan@virgin.net).  We need to make sure we have all trophies returned before the night please.  They have started to come in but there are still some outstanding.


If you want to engrave any trophies you have won please do so but this is self-funded.


Also we are looking for some volunteers to bake some cakes for the AGM.  Tea/coffee/squash will be available free of charge and hopefully some cake!  If you are able to bake a cake, please let me (Penny) know.  There have been a few offers but more are needed.  If you don’t like baking, you can always donate one from Waitrose or similar.


We will have a few high viz bibs available next week @ £5.25 each – these are the remaining stock before we order some with the club name on them.  Also available will be the CoCo ID tags to go on your trainers – a minimum £1 donation to the charity is required for these.  These tags are a simple idea but could give all the vital details someone might need in an emergency.  We also hope to have some samples of the new club t-shirt.


Please make every effort to come along to the AGM.  It is an important meeting to not only celebrate success but also to raise your ideas and socialise with your club mates.

Fancy doing a relay?

Bracknell Forest Runners are organising The Bounders Relay. Tuesday 19th July starting at 7pm in Crowthorne Woods, behind Broadmoor Hospital.


Teams of 4 runners and each leg is only 2.5 miles. Each team must contain a vet (35+ for female and 40+ for male). Teams can be single sexed or mixed.


Entry fee is £8 per team (so only a couple of quid each). We need to let the organisers know asap how many teams we will enter. Email Penny if you are interested and we will try and put some teams together.
