Food for Thought
Jul 17, 2012, 12:56 pm

We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves. The more restricted our society and work become, the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say "you must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that". The human spirit is indomitable" Sir Roger Bannister (1st human ever to run sub 4 minutes mile and recent olympics torch bearer at the age of 90)

50th Anniversary Invitation
Jun 25, 2012, 9:51 pm

On 7th July we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of our club. For a downloadable invitation please click here.

Fleet & Crookham Athletic Club, organisers of the annual Fleet pre-London Half Marathon are celebrating their 50th birthday and are inviting local residents to help them celebrate.

The club which is based at the Peter Driver Sports Field in Church Crookham are hosting a “come and have a try at athletics” afternoon for both children and adults on Saturday 7th July between 2.30 and 4.30pm.  The taster session will be followed by a fun event and BBQ for existing and past members.

This is a chance for local people to come and meet members of the club and have a go at some field events including shot, javelin, high-jump, discuss, 100 sprints and a 5km cross country run.

During an informal afternoon, you can find out more about what the club has to offer in terms of regular training and fitness sessions, meeting new friends with similar interests, competition opportunities representing the club, coaching both young and older athletes or getting involved with helping to continue to make the annual Fleet Half Marathon and Fleet 10km the successful events they are.

In our Olympic year, the focus at international level is on London, but at grass roots level there are opportunities on your doorstep.  Across the last 50 years Fleet & Crookham Athletic Club has been a very successful club.  We have had athletes of all ages excelling in all disciplines on the track, field, cross country and road.  Some of our athletes simply train a couple of times a week for fitness whereas others have represented not only the club but also the country at international level.  Be part of the next 50 years and join your local club – you won’t regret it.

New members are always welcome so why not come down and find out a bit more – we look forward to meeting you on Saturday 7th July.
