Brooks Fleet Half-marathon 2014 - RESULTS

Well done to all those who ran the Fleet Half-marathon today, especially those who trained with us in the 10 weeks leading up to the race. Results for the race, provided by FR Systems are HERE.


Alternative Transport to London Marathon - 13th April

Sandhurst Joggers organises a runners' bus to/from the London Marathon.  This year, unusually, it looks as though they will have a few seats to spare, so they will welcome runners from outside their club. 

The bus will leave Sandhurst at 6:30 am, to drop runners close to the start in Greenwich/Blackheath at about 8:15 (the start is at 10 am). It will pick op in Pall Mall, very close to the finish at (about) 4:30 pm, making it suitable for runners who expect to complete the marathon in up to about 5:30. The charge, for the London-bound bus is £15 (the return is free).

If any members are interested please contact Rob Hewison (robhewison@mac.com) as soon as possible and he will send more details.  Seats are guaranteed to Sandhurst Joggers runners only up to 23rd March (three weeks before the marathon).  After that seats will be allocated to others on a first-contact, first-offered basis. As soon as they know how many seats are available they will inform the successful applicants and ask them for payment. Once payment is received the seat is guaranteed and full details will se sent to the runner. 


Transport to/from London Marathon - 13th April 2014

As usual HRR has arranged a coach to take runners to the start of the VLM.
There are some places available on the coach if your members would like to share the transport with us. The coach picks up from the Hart Leisure centre at 6am on marathon day and drops off at Greenwich Park.
After the marathon it collects runners from Embankment, opposite Millbank and returns to HLC.
The cost is £20 pp which also includes a well-earned picnic after the marathon. Tickets for this can be booked and paid for on line at http://hrrpayments.co.uk/

Fleet and Crookham AC becomes a Charitable Incorporated Organisation

Following the vote in favour of registering Fleet and Crookham AC as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation at last week's EGM, I am pleased to announce that our application has been approved by the Charities Commission today.

Half-Marathon Training - Sunday 9th March

Sunday 9th March is the last of the Fleet Half-marathon training opportunities. Having had the longest run last week, we finish with a taper run of 8 miles. The 8-mile road route will be the same as before but there will be an alternative easy off-road route for those who prefer it. If you have enjoyed the experience of running with our club, you are welcome to become a member and continue to enjoy our regular training sessions.


Half-Marathon Training Routes for Sunday 2nd March

With 2 weeks to go, Sunday 2nd March is the longest of the training runs before tapering down. We have organised 3 on-road routes - all of which follow most of the HM route - to cater for beginners, improvers and experienced runners. All routes are common for the first 9 miles & then peel off for the shorter distances:

15 mile route13 mile route10 mile route. Enjoy your training - see you Sunday! Please remember to bring water for the longer runs to prevent dehydration.


Winter Handicap Results

Well done to all those that competed in the Winter Handicap Series of races. Our thanks go to Rob Coates for organising and documenting all of the results and to Merv for helping with the timing. The programme for the Summer series of off-road handicaps will be published soon.

For those who love the rough! New event March 29th / 30th

If you are interested in a new event, which is a bit different to a usual run in the park! Take a look at www.roughrunner.com

It's an obstacle event which will test your fitness, stamina and teamwork, and groups up and down the country are signing up to test their mettle!

It's a 10km or 10mile run, plus a dozen or so obstacles that have been inspired by all the TV game shows we used to watch - Gladiator, Takeshi's Castle, Wipeout, Ninja Warrior and more. You know, the ones you always wanted to try for yourself...

The location for this event is the Bordon military camp in Hampshire, and it'll be on March 29th & 30th. The terrain is a great mix of rugged tracks, forest roads, streams, bogs, and open grassy areas, where you'll be leaping, clambering, crawling and swinging your way through our awesome obstacles. And as an extra benefit, the organisers have also partnered up with The Prince's Trust charity and will be donating 10% of each ticket straight to them. You can raise funds through sponsorship too, and if you get £100 together for them you'll be given VIP treatment on the day in their '100 Club'.

Finally, if you do want to set up a team for your club, there are group discounts of at least 15% on ticket prices.
