| Game Notes | The Cru turned up to this cup game with only 10 players fit only to find that Kieran had gotten lost on the way to the game and was destined to never make it. So with only 9 players the decision was made to play a 4-4-2 formation without the 2 forward players, relying on the midfield to do the finishing as well as the build up.
So, with Conor making his debut as the Cru goalkeeper, the Cru started in an extremely positive manner taking the game to Rushmoor and immediately put them on the back foot, forcing them to defend deep and only get forward on the odd break.
The pressure finally told with a great goal by Lewis Coyle to put the Cru in front against a shocked looking Rushmoor. The game continued in the same manner with the only threat from Rushmoor being on the break, from which they managed to score only to find the scorer had been adjudged offside. The Cru added to their tally before the break with a great lob of the keeper from Taylor.
So, with 9 against 11 the Cru had managed to finish the half two goals to the good, and the second half should have been all about containment.
Rushmoor started the second half much better than the first and started to take advantage of our lack of numbers by leaving three of their players up front. They also started to attack down their right hand side a lot more. The Cru struggled to contain this new threat, but seemed almost complacent about the threat, right up until Rushmoor scored. At 2-1 down, Rushmoor found a new belief and pushed a lot of players forward and quickly equalised and then went ahead. In less than 2 minutes the Cru had gone from 2-0 up to 3-2 down.
This had the effect of waking the Cru up and completely removed their complacency and the battle resumed and the Cru started taking the game to Rushmoor once again. Shortly after the mad 2 minutes, Brad suffered cramp in his lower legs, and a straight swap with Conor was made.
With the Cru attacking in strength, a ball was played to the edge of the area that fell to the feet of Rio which resulted in an absolute rocket into the top right hand corner of the foal, the ball hitting the net before the keeper even had a chance to move.
The Cru continued to push hard, and their effort finally paid off with only 1 minute left on the clock, with Taylor providing the perfect finish to a very hard fought game.
Special mentions – well, its hard to define anyone in particular as the whole team played extremely well.
So here is the list of names of those who do deserve a mention (in no particular order):
Conor Maguire
Ben Clayton
Bradley Hoy
Ryan Bevin
Joe Birkitt
Ryan Rhodes
Lewis Coyle
Tyler (Rio) Ross
Taylor Webb
An excellent performance by all – If we play like that with a team of 11 on the pitch (disregarding the 2 minutes of madness) there is not a team in the league that can beat us.
