| Game Notes | A frozen and waterlogged Braybrooke pitch meant that this game could not go ahead, but Calcot offered to play the game on their pitch. With a late 11:30 KO, it gave a bit of extra time for the frozen ground to soften up a bit - but was a tight call.
Anyway, all the boys were up for it so despite it being bitterly cold the game went ahead. Calcot started very brighly and pushed forward from the start forcing a couple of corners. Kings defended well and gradually started getting into the game.
The Kings first goal came from a cross that was hand balled by the Calcot defender - everyone stopped expecting a penalty, no whistle came and Duncan seized the opportunity and slotted the ball passed the stationary keeper. Goal given - a good example of always playing to the whistle!!
Kings doubled their lead when Toby's run down the right beat a couple of defenders, his cross went straight into the top corner!! After this Kings had a number of chances to extended the lead. Toby's attacking throw-ins were causing a major threat, it also lead to the third goal - a flick on from Harry to Duncan the ball wipped across the face of the goal to find Aryan charging in from midfield to tap into at the far post. Great movement all round.
Kings looked really solid, with Philip sweeping up any potential danger and Kai, Toby and Aryan winning all the midfield battles
HT 0:3
Second half started much the same as the end of the first with Kings piling on the pressure. The Kings could sense more goals coming and Jamie, Duncan, Harry and Ieuan all had good chances to extend the lead. Finally Ieuan made it 4 with a neat shot from inside the box.
At 4:0 Kings looked very comfortable and in control. But Calcot had other ideas and pulled one back from a corner that Kings failed to clear. This gave Calcot a lift and they continued to push forward - but with no real threat on the Kings goal. Late on, a penalty was award after a Colcot player fell to the ground - nobody really understood the infringement (apparantly a shirt pull) A very well taken spot kick hit with power and precision into the corner left Shannon with no chance. This turned out to be the last kick of the match and gave Calcot some consolation.
FT 2:4
MoM: A number of candidates could have got it this week, but Toby was chosen again for his work rate, tackling and all his long throws which caused Calcot all sorts of problems. |
